What it’s Like to Intern with Mofilm

This past summer Mofilm established an internship program and welcomed two incredibly bright recent college graduates to the team. It was our goal to not only provide real world experience of working at a fast paced creative agency, but also to provide meaningful mentorship as they started their careers.

Rose, Community Engagement Intern

CUNY College, Hunter Campus ‘21

Brooklyn, NY

My time at Mofilm this summer as the Community Engagement Intern was an amazing learning experience.

As the Community Engagement Intern, I focused on keeping Mofilm’s global community of creatives informed on current and future happenings at Mofilm. I also provided support on Mofilm’s social campaigns and supported the team on pre and post-production for projects.

I truly felt like I got to do a little of everything while I was at Mofilm. I learned more about CRM and email marketing by sending bi-weekly newsletters to Mofilm’s community. Through these newsletters I got to use and enhance my writing skills. For example, my first newsletter shared the LGBTQ+ creators that were a part of Mofilm’s Pride Month highlight series.

A large part of my internship also focused on the creation and production of the Many Voices TikTok brief. I, along with Nathan who was the Social Content Intern, took the lead on this project in order to bring it to fruition.

We wrote the brief, shared it with the community, and created assets that were going to be posted to the social accounts. Along with that, we focused on outreach in order to be able to spread the word about this new and fun opportunity for creatives to get involved with. Nathan and I received nearly 20 submissions and selected 10 finalists to receive a cash prize and inclusion in a final edit on Mofilm’s Tiktok for their submissions. From supporting projects to learning to take the lead on my own project, I received a wide range of experience at Mofilm.

At the start of my internship I was very nervous about making mistakes but by the end of my internship my confidence was raised and I felt proud of the work I had done as part of the MoFam!

Nathan Phan, Social Content Intern / Marketing Coordinator

Princeton University ‘19

Los Angeles, CA

In the midst of another summer stuck indoors because of the pandemic, I was anxious about what my first remote position would be like at Mofilm.

“What would it be like working with a team that was, for the most part, either across the country in NYC, or across the pond in the UK?” I thought to myself.

But as I began my journey with Mofilm, my internship quickly became one of my most rewarding experiences in my professional career. It went beyond just an internship; it became an opportunity for me to rediscover my passions for media, entertainment, and diversity and inclusion.

As the Social Content Intern, I managed Mofilm’s social media profiles by creating a social media calendar, writing copy and creating visual assets. In order to create content, I interviewed filmmakers and photographers in the Mofilm community for creator spotlight posts, and dove into Mofilm’s case studies to find past projects to highlight.

My biggest project was launching a new brief specifically for TikTok in collaboration with Rose. We challenged filmmakers to tell us what they were doing this summer now that the world was beginning to open up again. Of the 10 winners, 8 were BIPOC creators. (You can check out the winners here!)

Even as an intern, I had many opportunities to learn and work with members of the team across different departments. From working with Anisha, our Director of Production Operations, to match filmmakers with relevant briefs, to beautifying presentation decks with Lee, our Global Executive Creative Director, I was always encouraged to go beyond my social media role. I even got to be a filmmaker myself for one of our briefs with String & Key, creating two skits about life insurance that made it to their final cut.

But perhaps my favorite thing about Mofilm is its tight-knit and supportive team. Over digital coffee chats, I learned about so many different career paths and received advice for my own professional development. Senior producers like Sophie and Tatiana shared their own unique experiences and important values they look out for in companies, like collaboration and the chance to have your voice heard. No matter who I went to, I could always ask for help and that my work was valued. The mentorship and support I’ve received from Mofilm gave me something I’ve been missing for so long — community.

Now stepping into my new role at Mofilm as the Marketing Coordinator, I’m incredibly thankful to Mofilm for giving me such an amazing community, and I can’t wait to continue growing and learning from our team!
